Tribulus Terrestris -
Testosterone Booster
What is Tribulus
Terrestris?
Tribulus terrestris is a natural
herb, commonly known as the puncture vine, that has been used for centuries in
Europe as a treatment for impotence and as a stimulant to help enhance sexual
drive and performance. On the athletic front, this potent herb has been studied
and observed to enhance LH (luteinizing hormone) production and boost
testosterone levels. This powerful extract, like DHEA and Androstenedione, can
help elevate testosterone levels safely and its effects have been coveted by
Bulgarian athletes for decades.
Why should I use Tribulus
Terrestris?
Like DHEA and Androstenedione,
Tribulus terrestris can naturally support testosterone production. Testosterone
is vital because it plays many key roles in our bodies including building muscle
size and strength. Athletes are using Tribulus terrestris to help ensure that
their levels of this natural hormone are at normal levels at all times. This can
thus ensure that testosterone levels are maintained through a natural platform
without the use of dangerous drugs like steroids.
What research has been done on
Tribulus Terrestris?
When scientists first started
researching Tribulus terrestris, it was for the sole purpose of discovering a
safe, natural treatment for sexual deficiencies. This research led to the
discovery that Tribulus terrestris significantly elevated LH and testosterone
levels. One follow-up study, conducted on healthy men ages 28-45, showed that 3
doses of 250mg taken evenly throughout the day for just five days elevated
testosterone levels by 30% or more! Additional studies confirmed the previous
study and also showed that, in addition to a rise in testosterone levels,
subjects saw an increase in libido, frequency and strength of erections and
recovery from sexual activity. Other changes that where noted included: a
reduction of cholesterol, improved mood and increased self-confidence.
What doses of Tribulus Terrestris
should be taken?
While there is no definitive guide on
how much Tribulus terrestris should be taken, there are different guidelines
suggested by experts in the medical field. Most suggest 250-750mg per day taken
evenly throughout the day.
What side effects are caused by
Tribulus Terrestris?
Just as with any supplement, caution
should be exercised when considering taking Tribulus terrestris. In the research
studies done, no adverse affects where noted from the use of Tribulus
terrestris. In addition, further research demonstrated no adverse effects on the
central nervous or cardiovascular systems. At this time no toxicity or negative
effects presently exist when Tribulus terrestris is used as a nutritional
supplement.
Should I cycle Tribulus
Terrestris?
There is no evidence that shows
conclusively what the optimal usage and duration of Tribulus terrestris should
be. Many of the research studies done used 750mg of Tribulus terrestris for
short periods of time. Unlike DHEA and Androstenedione, Tribulus terrestris is
not manufactured by the body, however, prolonged usage could down-regulate it's
effects and make it less potent and long term usage and its effects have not yet
been studied, therefore cycling Tribulus terrestris might be advantageous.
There are different "schemes" of
cycling that have been reported to work. These include a 3 week "on cycle"
followed by a 1-3 week "off cycle", or a descending dosage pattern such as 4-6
weeks "on" followed by 3-6 weeks "off". As is the case with all supplementation,
better judgment is the key to success. Knowing your body and its limits is as
crucial to proper supplementation as it is to proper training.
